Belize Weather Forecast: October 8, 2020
General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS:
Present Condition: Mostly cloudy this morning. Fair conditions at first and then a feeder band from Hurricane Delta will support showers.
Advisories: *A Flood Watch is in effect for the possibility of flooding along rivers in the north.*
24-hour forecast:
Cloudy spells with isolated showers this morning and then a few showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop over inland areas this afternoon, spreading to the rest of the country later tonight.
Winds: Light and Variable Sea State: Slight
Waves: 1-3 ft
Sea Surface Temperature (°f): 87
Outlook:
A few showers and isolated thunderstorms will affect the coast and sea on Friday morning, then inland areas in the afternoon.
Sargassum Forecast from October 6, 2020 to October 14, 2020:
The chances of sargassum affecting local beaches in the next few days remain low with minimal impacts expected from any mats that do make it ashore. San Pedro has a low probability and a minimal expected impact.
Tropical Weather Outlook:
At 6:00 am Hurricane Delta was centered near latitude 23.7N, longitude 92.3W, or about 425 miles south of Cameron, Louisiana. Delta was moving to the NW at 15mph with maximum sustained winds of 100mph.

Marine Conditions:
The Caribbean Sea
An upper-level low is centered near Jamaica. Upper level
divergence on the southeast side of the upper low is supporting
clusters of showers and thunderstorms from the coast of Colombia
to off the coasts of Haiti and eastern Cuba. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms are also active from Providencia Island to Jamaica.
Dry, subsident NE flow aloft between the upper low and an upper
anticyclone over the eastern Gulf of Mexico is suppressing most
convective activity over the remainder of Cuba and the northwest
Caribbean. High pressure centered northeast of the Bahamas is
supporting moderate trade winds across the eastern Caribbean,
although fresh trade winds are possible off Venezuela and across
the ABC islands. These fresh winds will be short lived as the high
pressure should weaken this morning. Fresh southerly are likely
ongoing over the Yucatan Channel, although should be diminishing
through the morning as Delta moves farther away. Light to gentle
breezes and slight seas are noted elsewhere.
For the forecast, building high pressure over the northwest
Atlantic will support fresh trade winds and moderate seas over the
south-central Caribbean, and gentle to moderate trade winds and
slight seas elsewhere Fri. Winds and seas will diminish across the
basin through early next week as the high pressure shifts east.

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Delta, located over the south-central Gulf of Mexico. Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days. Hurricane Delta is centered near 23.4N 91.8W at 08/0900 UTC or 390 nm SSE of Cameron Louisiana moving NW at 13 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 973 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 85 kt with gusts to 105 kt. Numerous strong convection is active within 90 nm of the northeastern semicircle and 120 nm of the southeastern semicircle. On the forecast track, the center of Delta will move over the southern and central Gulf of Mexico through today, and approach the northern Gulf coast on Friday. Delta is forecast to move inland by late Fri or Fri night. Strengthening is forecast while the hurricane moves over the southern and central Gulf of Mexico through today, and Delta is expected to become a major hurricane again. Some weakening is forecast as Delta approaches the northern Gulf coast on Fri. Peak seas near the center of Delta are forecast to build to at least 33 feet today as Delta moves over the central Gulf, with an expanding area of swell supporting combined seas in excess of 8 ft over most of the central and western Gulf. Very heavy rainfall, hurricane force winds, and a life- threatening storm surge are expected along portions of the northern Gulf Coast Fri into early Sat. The heavy rain will then spread inland across the Mississippi Valley. Dry, subsident NE flow aloft between the upper low and an upper anticyclone over the eastern Gulf of Mexico is suppressing most convective activity over the remainder of Cuba and the northwest Caribbean. High pressure centered northeast of the Bahamas is supporting moderate trade winds across the eastern Caribbean, although fresh trade winds are possible off Venezuela and across the ABC islands. These fresh winds will be short lived as the high pressure should weaken this morning. Fresh southerly are likely ongoing over the Yucatan Channel, although should be diminishing through the morning as Delta moves farther away. Light to gentle breezes and slight seas are noted elsewhere. For the forecast, building high pressure over the northwest Atlantic will support fresh trade winds and moderate seas over the south-central Caribbean, and gentle to moderate trade winds and slight seas elsewhere Fri. Winds and seas will diminish across the basin through early next week as the high pressure shifts east. ![[Linked Image]](//Ambergriscaye.com/art8/hurricaneoutlook201008.jpg) For more information, check the daily Tropical Weather Outlook, click here

On Ambergris Caye this morning the sea around our barrier reef is calm and the day is sunny. The expected high temperature for the day is 86 f. A great day for anything.

We are now out of most of the effects from HURRICANE DELTA which was, for a short time, down to Cat.1, but now back up to Cat.2 but it is now expected to be going west of New Orleans, nearer to Houston. It is still throwing out some high level winds our way but not much. The Caribbean winds from the SSE are just starting up, but the original strong high level winds from the NE are coming back and bringing a lot of high level clouds our way, with possibly some rain. Looks as if today will also be variable early cloud thinning a bit, so some sunshine, but could be some rain later, the strong SW wind has now stopped. Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last night min. 25°C 77°F Yesterday max. 29°C 84°F Yesterday Rain 0 mm ( 0")
