This has been going on for four years. There have been numerous complaints to the Town Board, the Area Rep. , the Mining Department, Hol Chan and many others and not any response. The dredging never had curtains, other than for a few weeks when inspectors first showed up. The promise when the dredging started was that it would only be for six months and they would stay forty feet from all piers and seawalls. The end of my pier went from four feet deep to over eight feet. We have a real fear that should a storm come the additional depth of water will damage the piers and seawalls from the wave action. We already have experienced never before seen wave action over our seawalls.
The dredging has eliminated all conch beds, small coral out cropping and seagrass in the area. It will be many years before this comes back.
The result is the island's original drainage from front to back has been altered. Be cause of filling on the lagoon side, drainage has stopped and has created ponds in the center. For two years we were promised the drainage would be alleviated by use of drains that were blocked off to using new drains to the canals that were built. This has not happened yet, and fears are that it never will be. The result is tremendous amount of mosquitos and flooding of our front lots that have been here for over twenty years with no flooding. Not to mention the horrendous noise pollution.
Hopefully someone who is not being paid off will stop and alleviate this situation.
