The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Depression Eta, located over the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

Tropical Depression Eta is centered near 18.3N 84.9W at 07/0900 UTC or 220 nm WSW of Grand Cayman moving ENE at 9 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1002 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 30 kt with gusts to 40 kt. Numerous moderate scattered strong convection is noted within 120 nm E and 30 nm W semicircles of Eta. Eta is forecast to intensify to tropical storm strength today while moving on a ENE track.

Heavy rainfall is diminishing across portions of Central America, although the threat of life-threatening flooding may continue, along with landslides in areas of higher terrain. Heavy rainfall from Eta will continue across the Cayman Islands and portions of Cuba, resulting in significant, life-threatening flash flooding and river flooding in Cuba. Flash and urban flooding will also be possible for the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, the Bahamas and southern Florida.

A broad non-tropical low pressure system could form several hundred miles southwest of the Azores early next week. The system could gradually obtain some subtropical characteristics thereafter as it moves slowly northeastward over the northeastern Atlantic Ocean.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.

That storm cloud has moved well away from Belize, but I think it is reforming into a storm as it goes towards central Cuba. The Caribbean winds off shore are from the North, there is also cool air coming down from the north over Belize, but not much trace of high level clouds.

Looks as if Belize will be a mixture of sunshine and cloud, and only as small chance of rain.

After 4 days of rain there is local flooding and beach erosion but it’s so nice to get outside. A fittingly good day. Thinking of everyone on the mainland and our southern neighbors who will be struggling for a while as things slowly dry out. Photos by San Pedro Scoop
