First official statement by newly elected Prime Minister Hon. John Briceno on the State of Affairs.

Prime Minister Briceno in his recorded statement today has indicated that the financial situation of the country is far worse than they had anticipated. He noted that the government's debt has gone from 97.7% of GDP to 132.9% of GDP. The country is not earning enough to meet its financial obligations. In the health sector, the PM noted that he learnt that there is no real plan to contain the spread of Covid-19. The technical team is drafting a plan with the Minister of Health which is to be presented on Tuesday at the next Cabinet meeting. Meanwhile assessments are being done in the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing as well as the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change & Disaster Risk Management. These assessments will be presented to Cabinet on Tuesday. The PM also noted in his statement that no CEO has been appointed as yet as they first have to be confirmed by the Governor General His Excellency Sir Colville Young. He noted that the team of CEOs will be discussed at the next Cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
