Former Prime Minister Dean Barrow could be getting ready to take out a lawsuit against his successor, Prime Minister John Briceno. It's a defamation suit, but Briceno is not accused of defaming Barrow, nothing like that. In this case, the former PM has put on his lawyer's robes, and he is writing as the attorney for Tourism Director Karen Bevans.
And it's all about an interview PM Briceno gave to LOVE FM and TV last week. In it he discussed Bevans contract and made certain characterizations about the circumstances it was issued under.
Well, she believes those statements were untrue and plainly defamatory - and she has retained her former maximum boss as attorney.
Today, via text message, Barrow confirmed to 7News that he has, quote "written to the Honourable Prime Minister complaining-on behalf of Mrs Karen Bevans of defamation of character. A similar letter of complaint has also gone to Love Radio and Love TV as the stations that aired the Prime Minister's interview containing the alleged slander." End quote.
The letter from Barrow demands a retraction and apology and quote "compensation for injury to her reputation and feelings" end quote.
If none is forthcoming, the letter says he will file suit within two weeks from December second, which is when the letter was sent.
Reports from the Briceno camp suggest that the current Prime Minister may choose to wait out that 2 weeks, and face off with Bevans in court.
