The San Pedro Lions Club continues helping the vulnerable and affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic by providing groceries to families in need on the island. Their efforts saw them delivering 100 bags filled with groceries, aiming to feed 500 islanders. According to the island's Lions Club, most of the assistance went to senior citizens. The grocery bags distribution, which took place on Monday, December 14th, was five bags per family and included essential food items such as beans, rice, meats, flour, and sugar, among other things. They also had hygienic and cooking products. The food assistance was made possible thanks to donors on the island and from abroad.

On Tuesday, December 15th, Hope Haven Children's Home and Empowerment Center received ten merry bags for families assisted by the center. The club has also allowed the use of their den and grill for fundraiser events at no cost. On Sunday, December 13th, the most recent event saw a group of islanders hosting a BBQ sale to raise much-needed funds to help their sick relatives.

The San Pedro Lions Club delivers turkey dinners to senior citizens at home instead of hosting annual Christmas party

For the first time, the highly anticipated Senior Citizens' Christmas party, organized every year by the San Pedro Lions Club, was cancelled due to COVID-19. Instead of hosting them at their Den on Barrier Reef Drive for a fun evening, on Thursday, December 17th, the Lions prepared and delivered 100 plates of food along with gift bags to a select number of the island seniors.

The elders were visited at their homes and handed a delicious turkey dinner plate with all the trimmings. With smiles, they received the food and presents and thanked the Lions for remembering them. Thanks to the kind participation of donors and volunteers who continue to support this activity, the event was possible. The San Pedro Lions Club expresses gratitude to all those who donated, cooked, packed and delivered the presents and meals to San Pedro's senior citizens
