Belize Weather Forecast: January 2, 2021

General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly clear this morning, especially in the north. Mainly fair conditions prevail with an increase in moisture expected later today.
Advisories: *Small craft caution. Operators of small crafts are advised to exercise caution for occasionally rough seas.*
24-hour forecast: Mostly sunny today and cloudy at times tonight. Showers will be isolated at first, then a few showers and isolated thunderstorms will affect mostly the coast tonight.
Winds: E-SE, 10-20 kts
Sea State: Moderate - Rough
Waves: 5-7 ft
Sea Surface Temperature (°f): 81
Outlook: Some cloudy spells with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms will affect most places on Sunday with activity becoming isolated Sunday night.
Sargassum Forecast from December 29, 2020 to January 06, 2021: Impacts from sargassum are expected to remain minimal during the next few days. San Pedro has a low probability and a minimal expected impact.

Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

High pressure continues to build south into the basin, producing strong east winds and isolated fast moving showers embedded in the flow across much of the basin. Near gale conditions are occurring within 120 nm of the coast of Colombia.

The monsoon trough extends from northern Colombia near 11N73W, across Panama, beyond NW Costa Rica, and into the eastern Pacific Ocean. Precipitation previously associated with this trough has diminished early this morning.

Strong east winds will prevail across the eastern, central and southwest Caribbean as strong high pressure north of the area remains in place through the weekend. A pulse of easterly gales is expected tonight offshore Colombia. Winds will decrease to mainly moderate to locally fresh early on Mon, except strong winds will pulse nightly off the N coast of Colombia trough Wed night. Otherwise, fresh to strong SE winds in the NW Caribbean will diminish this morning.

elbert	On Ambergris Caye this morning the sea around our barrier reef is rough from an Easterly wind blowing at 23 mph. The day is sunny and our expected high temperature is 86 f. OP Marty	Despite being overcast in central Belize this morning, there is a fair amount of sunshine in other parts. The cool air from the north has not got any nearer, the Caribbean winds do have more cloud in them and from the east, not much trace of high level cloud at present, but looks a bit changeable. Looks as if today will be a mixture of sun and cloud, a small chance of the odd rain shower. Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 23°C 74°F Yesterday 30°C 86°F Yesterday Rain 0 mm ( 0")
