Marine Conditions:
The Caribbean Sea
This is supporting strong trade winds across the south central
and southwest Caribbean early this morning, with fresh winds over
the eastern Caribbean. Gentle to moderate E winds are observed
over the northwest Caribbean. Seas are in the 10-14 ft range over
the southwest and south- central Caribbean, south of 18N and west
of 70W. Seas are 7-10 ft over the eastern Caribbean, and 5-8 ft
over the northwestern Caribbean.
A surface trough that was previously located in the far eastern
Caribbean has dissipated early this morning.
For the forecast, strong winds will gradually decrease over the
basin today, and gales will end off the coast of Colombia this
morning, as the high pressure building south into the region
weakens. Through the first half of the week, expect mainly
moderate trades, with pulses of locally strong east winds N of
Colombia tonight and Mon night. A weak cold front will cross the
northwestern Caribbean early in the week.
On Ambergris Caye this morning the sun came up on our barrier reef again. The breeze is from the East at 12 mph. It's going to be a sunny day with an expected high temperature of 82 f. in paradise.
The Caribbean is now fairly clear of cloud, but the SW high level is still everywhere, still causing a blanket of cloud over all Belize and did cause some more rain early this morning. The rains yesterday, were probably the most, by far, for January for very many years, in fact heavier than normal, even in the wet season, over 95mm almost 4" of rain in 24 hours, and that on top of an already totally saturated ground from the horrendous rains in November. And now it looks as if another cold front is trying to push its way down.
Looks as if most of today will continue to be cloudy, but a lot less rain than yesterday, perhaps some sunshine.
Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 22°C 72°F Yesterday 26°C 78°F Yesterday Rain 95 mm ( 3.8") This Morning Rain 6.4 mm ( 0.3")
The cloud is certainly thinning to give increased sunlight. Looks like very few possible rain areas. There is a movement of air coming down from the NW. . . Not quite sure what. . . It has the appearance of high level cloud, but that does not figure, so I suspect it is cool air pushing in under the warmer air, making ripples in the higher warm air. So I expect our temperatures to rise today, but should that cold air get further, we may have more cool air tomorrow.
Present Condition: Cloudy in the north and south, not so much in the central part of the country right now. A relatively moist airflow continues to dominate our weather.
24hr Forecast: Sunny skies today with some cloudy spells. Tonight skies will be partly cloudy becoming cloudy at times. Shower activity will be isolated during the daytime. Tonight and tomorrow morning expect a few showers developing mainly along coastal areas.
Outlook: Tuesday afternoon thru to Wednesday afternoon is for few showers and isolated thunderstorms developing over inland areas during Tuesday afternoon, elsewhere shower activity will be isolated.
