The weather is actually rather complex at present.
Not much high level ( Orange ) from the SW, but the main cloud is the easterly Caribbean winds. But under that, the cool air ( Blue ) is creping in over Belize, under the Caribbean winds ( White ). But the surface wind ( Green ) is from the SW, at least in the Belmopan area.
Flood Report and Forecast for January 13, 2021River Conditions REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek, Santa Cruz, San Roman and Douglas levels are below normal and show a minimal rise and at San Antonio below normal levels continues to falling. On the NEW RIVER at Caledonia levels are below normal and falling.
REGION 9 - On the MACAL RIVER reservoir levels at all BECOL facilities are below the spillway; while at San Ignacio, levels are below the low-level bridge and steady. Levels on the MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town are normal and steady.
The BELIZE RIVER at Double Run is normal and steady. The CROOKED TREE LAGOON remains at FLOOD STAGE and continues to fall slowly.
REGION 11 - Levels on the SIBUN RIVER at Freetown Sibun is below normal and steady. Levels on the SOUTHERN LAGOON near Gales Point Village are near normal and steady. The watersheds on the EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MAYAN MOUNTAINS are below normal and steady. The SITTEE RIVER at Kendal Bridge is below normal and steady. On MONKEY RIVER at the Swasey Branch levels are above normal and steady; while on the Bladen Branch levels are below normal and falling slowly. Levels on the RIO GRANDE at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls South are normal and steady. On the MOHO RIVER at Blue Creek South levels are above normal and falling slowly. On the TEMASH RIVER near Crique Sarco levels are above normal and falling.
REGION 13 - On the SARSTOON RIVER levels are above normal and falling.
FLOOD FORECAST REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek, Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman and Douglas to the coast, no significant change is expected. On the NEW RIVER at Tower Hill and Caledonia no significant change is expected.
REGION 9 - On the MACAL RIVER, reservoir levels is expected to remain below the spillway at all BECOL facilities; at San Ignacio, levels are expected to remain below the low-level bridge. On the MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town, no significant change is expected. On the BELIZE RIVER at Double Run, no significant change in river level is expected over the next few days. On the CROOKED TREE LAGOON, FLOOD STAGE is expected to continue to recede.
REGION 11 - On the SIBUN RIVER and SOUTHERN LAGOON, no significant change in river level is expected. In watersheds on the EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MAYAN MOUNTAINS, normal and steady levels are expected to increase minimally. On the SITTEE RIVER, at Kendal Bridge river levels are expected to recede becoming normal. On the Swasey and Bladen branches of the MONKEY RIVER no significant change in river level is expected. On the RIO GRANDE at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls South no significant change in river level is expected. On the MOHO RIVER at Blue Creek South a minimal increase in river level is expected. Levels on the TEMASH RIVER are expected to increase minimally.
REGIONS 13 - On the SARSTOON RIVER, river levels is expected to increase minimally.
