General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Cloudy this morning. Relatively moist conditions prevail over the area.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Cloudy spells with isolated showers and brief periods of rain today then only isolated showers tonight.

Outlook: Some cloudy spells with isolated showers for Friday with activity increasing Friday night.
Sargassum Forecast from January 13, 2020 to January 20, 2021: Impacts from sargassum are expected to continue minimal to moderate this week with the chance of a few mats drifting ashore. San Pedro has a medium probability and a moderate expected impact.

Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

A surface trough extends from 17N86W in the NW Caribbean Sea, across the Yucatan Peninsula. Isolated showers are in the NW part of the Caribbean Sea.

The monsoon trough is along 08N/09N between 74W in northern Colombia and 83W in western Panama. Isolated showers span the rest of the Caribbean Sea. The clouds and showers are moving with the low level easterly trade wind flow.

Trade winds across the central Caribbean will gradually diminish through Friday as high pressure north of the region shifts eastward. A weak cold front will enter the NW Caribbean Friday night, then stall and dissipate from eastern Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras through Sunday.

Marty OP	A new cold front will arrive on the Yucatan Peninsula between Friday night and Saturday morning, bringing a further drop in temperatures as well as moderate "north" event and some rainfall. The mercury column is estimated to drop to at least between 10°C and 15°C in most of the peninsula, while records of between 5°C and 10°C are recorded in central and southern Yucatan. The atmosphere will become drier as the nearby cold air mass is of continental polar origin, a condition that will also reduce cloud coverage and further radiative cooling. It's important to stress that the cold air masses arriving in our region by nature dry and cold as their home regions are generally Canada and the Arctic ice. Yucatan Meteorology

Marty OP	Lovely photo Elbert!!!! There is still a general drift of cool air from the north over most of Belize, the Caribbean wind being diverted southwards towards Honduras. ITCZ activity, which at this time of the year is way down south of us, typically produces areas of cloud, which then stream up northwards, and due to the rotation of Earth, then curve round to form the high level SW winds, which is what we often see and had been dominating the upper air over the Yucatan and the Gulf for days now. But another such development much closer to us, near Panama is resulting in high level clouds coming straight up from the south, over Honduras and into the Caribbean sea right now. But the cool air from the NW is holding the normal Caribbean winds away from Belize. Looks as if today will again, be very similar to yesterday, cloud over most of Belize some sun in the south, probably little or no rain today. Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 22°C 72°F Yesterday 25°C 78°F Yesterday Rain 1.2 mm ( 0.1")

Marty OP	The steady movement of cool air from the north is now dominating our weather. Causing some of the fog or low cloud to drop some of its moisture as drizzle.

A cool north to northwesterly airflow dominates our weather. 24hr Forecast: Cloudy spells with isolated showers or brief periods of rain this afternoon, decreasing tonight and tomorrow morning. Outlook: A few showers or periods of rain will affect mainly northern and inland areas on Friday afternoon, spreading along coastal areas on Friday night then occur mainly over the south on Saturday morning.
