RECORD BREAKING SAILBOAT ADVENTURE II RESCUED OFF THE COAST OF BELIZERace Against the SunAmbergris Caye, Belize January 2021 - Two days of intense communications between Belizean Tacogirl.com and Roland Rumm of Rolands Garden Guesthouse in Guanaja, Honduras culminated with a pulse-raising "race against the sun" to rescue the record breaking Pirate Ship ADVENTURE II on January 27, 2021.
By 10 am that morning, it became clear to Rumm and Tacogirl.com that the ADVENTURE II would definitely be heading to Ambergris Caye with an anticipated arrival time of 730 pm and a landing location of 10 miles north of San Pedro Town. Tacogirl.com alerted the Belize Sailing Center (BSC) which immediately organized an armada of sailboats to intercept the tiny vessel before it crashed and was destroyed on our Belize Barrier Reef.
However, by 2 pm the extremely windy and rough sea state coupled with the country wide mandated 8 pm curfew were deemed too difficult for a sail boat rescue. The ADVENTURE II's onboard GPS device indicated that the ship was approximately 10 miles off shore, so a motor boat was needed to complete the rescue mission. Seaduced By Belize's Captain Elito Arceo was enlisted to carry the 5 person rescue crew the approximately 8 miles in 6' to 8' swells to locate the wayward toy ship.
Armed with a GPS tracker operated by crew member Al Domescik of Keller Williams and with coordinates updated via text Tacogirl.com to crew member Lara Goldman of 12 Belize, SEADUCED II began it's "race against the sun" search and rescue mission at around 3 pm. Smashing and crashing through the waves and despite unbelievable odds, ADVENTURE II was joyously located at around 445 pm. "I confirmed on the GPS tracker that we'd reached the appropriate coordinates, and when I looked up - BAM, there it was! What a thrill!" said Domescik. Video taken by Goldman shows the secure rescue of the craft by 8 year old crew member, Oceane Vigna Milner, who plucked it from the turbulent ocean.
The Belize Sailing Center is actively working with international hydrographers to determine the best launch date and method. Cindy Vigna, representative from the BSC explains "In order for the ship to successfully catch the Gulf stream back across the Atlantic, then we need to thread our way up past Florida. However, a creative solution to improve the keel is needed. This will allow the currents to set the course rather than easterly trade winds that may push her back ashore. We need modify this if A2 is to get back to its home with Ollie and Harry who started this adventure many months ago."
While we await the final re-launch plan and date, and at the request of Ship owner Macneil of "The days are just packed" facebook page and father of the kids who started this amazing adventure, ADVENTURE II will be shown around Ambergris Caye in grand style. A full schedule of opportunities to view the ADVENTURE IIwill be posted on the Belize Sailing Center , 12 Belize and Tacogirl.com facebook pages as the schedule is completed, but the following dates are currently confirmed:
