Belize Weather Forecast: February 16, 2021

General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Cloudy this morning. A relatively mild northwesterly airflow is expected to prevail this morning.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Skies will be cloudy at times. A few showers, periods of rain and possible isolated thunderstorms are likely over some areas around the country today. Then, for tonight, showers will be isolated.
Winds: N-NW, 10-20 kts
Sea State: Light chop - choppy
Waves: 2-5 ft.

Outlook: For Wednesday and Wednesday night is for mainly fair weather to prevail, with little or no rainfall occurring.
Sargassum Forecast from February 9 to February 17: Sargassum impacts are expected to remain moderate during the coming days with the chance of a few mats drifting onto local beaches. San Pedro has a medium probability and a moderate expected impact.

The Caribbean Sea

There is a Gale Warning in effect for the south-central Caribbean Sea north of the coast of Colombia. Recent scatterometer data depicts fresh to locally strong winds across the south central Caribbean outside of the gale area, while moderate to fresh trade winds prevail elsewhere. High pressure to the north of the area is allowing for dry conditions to prevail across most of the basin. The exception is in the NW Caribbean where scattered showers are moving across Cuba towards the Florida Straits. Seas in the central and eastern Caribbean are in the 6-9 ft, and 3-5 ft seas prevail in the western part of the basin.

High pressure north of the area will maintain fresh to strong trade winds across the central and eastern Caribbean through Thu. Southeast winds will increase in the Gulf of Honduras from Wed night into Thu as a strong cold front approaches from the Gulf of Mexico. The cold front is expected to move across western Caribbean on Fri/Sat, then becomes stationary on Sat night. Strong N winds will follow the front. Large north swell will continue to affect the tropical N Atlantic waters through Thu, then begin to subside through Sat night.

OP Marty	Well that cool air storm line, often called a Squall Line, in the tropics,came across Belize last night, and is still hanging around just off our coast. There is now a rather complex weather in our area, the Caribbean winds are still being diverted up northwards, away from Belize but there is both a warm air mass going up over Belize from the South and cool air coming down over Belize from the north resulting in a thick blanket of cloud and then there is the high level winds from the SW as well. Looks as if today will be mainly cloudy, could be outbreaks of rain in any place, but presently little or none. Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 23°C 73°F Yesterday 33°C 91°F Yesterday Rain 2.2 mm ( 0.1")

OP Marty	Both north and south clouds over most of Belize at present, and some sunshine between. Present Condition: Partly cloudy. A relatively cool northerly to northeasterly airflow is expected this afternoon. 24hr Forecast: Partly cloudy skies this afternoon and tonight with isolated showers. Mainly fair and dry conditions tomorrow morning. Outlook: From Wednesday afternoon through to midday on Thursday is for mainly fair weather with little or no rainfall.
