Qualifications to donate blood include:

Age 18 to 65
No pre existing conditions/illnesses
No allergy to medication
Not pregnant or menstruating
No tattoos within one year
No medication morning of donation
No alcohol within 24 hours
Eat a meal before arriving

February Blood Drive yields 32 pints

The Belize Red Cross San Pedro Branch (BRCSPB) collected 32 pints of blood after holding a drive on Saturday, February 27th, at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II. The supply of the vital liquid is stored at the blood bank in Belize City and is available to anyone needing a blood transfusion.

The blood drive adhered to all COVID-19 safety protocols, and donors could enter the clinic after making an appointment. According to organizers, the drive was from 8:30AM until 4:30PM. During this time, a total of 39 people offered to donate but not all qualified. The island branch is glad to see such a high turnout as it has been low on previous occasions. The next blood drive will be within the next three months, but BRCSPB is always willing to set an emergency drive if necessary.
