Marine Conditions:
The Caribbean Sea
A cold front reaches from west-central Cuba to the Gulf of
Honduras. Recent buoy and earlier scatterometer satellite data
indicated 20 to 30 kt winds west of the front, with seas
estimated to be 6 to 9 ft. Moderate NE winds and 5 to 7 ft seas
are noted elsewhere over the northwest Caribbean. Fresh to strong
trade winds are noted over the south-central Caribbean, with 6 to
9 ft seas. Winds are a little stronger off the coast of northeast
Colombia where a recent ship observation confirmed 30 kt winds.
Seas off the coast of Colombia are estimated to be as high as 11
ft. Moderate trade winds are noted elsewhere over the eastern
Caribbean. A few showers are evident over the northwest Gulf near
the front, and across the southeast Caribbean.
For the forecast, the front will move little then stall from
central Cuba to the Gulf of Honduras today, before dissipating
Sun. High pressure building in the wake of the front north of the
area will support fresh to strong NE winds east of 80W into Sun,
fresh to strong NE winds across the Windward Passage, and
overnight pulses to gale force off the coast of Colombia Sun night
through mid week.
On Ambergris Caye this morning we have a strong Northwest wind blowing at 22 mph creating a rough sea condition around our barrier reef. It's a chilly 68 degrees with an expected high temperature predicted to be 77 f. Burrr!
The NASA picture is showing some traces of the earlier cold air still trying to come in from the west, but the easterly Caribbean wind is taking over and bringing a lot of cloud in from the Caribbean, yet there is still northerly cool air mixed up with that Caribbean winds. Could well be rain out at sea.
Rather mixed weather for Belize, sun in the north, some sone in parts of the south and heavy cloud over most of central areas which could produce some rain during the day.
Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 20°C 68°F Yesterday 29°C 85°F Yesterday Rain 18 mm ( 0.7")
Present Condition: Cloudy skies. Cool and windy conditions prevail. A small craft warning is in effect for strong winds and rough seas. Operators of small crafts should stay in safe harbor.
24hr Forecast: Mostly cloudy with a few showes or periods of light rain mainly over central and southern areas of the country.
Outlook: For Sunday afternoon and Sunday night is for a few showers, periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms, decreasing on Monday morning.
