The Caribbean Sea
A Gale Warning is in effect for the waters off the coast of
Colombia. Recent buoy observations and earlier scatterometer data showed
winds have diminished over much of the northwest Caribbean, along
the south coast of Cuba, and in the Windward passage as high
pressure north of the area shifted eastward over the past several
hours ahead of a cold front moving across the northern Gulf of
Mexico into the Florida peninsula. Seas are likely 4 to 5 ft in
the Windward Passage, but buoy observations and altimeter
satellite data indicate seas are 2 to 4 ft across the northwest
Caribbean.
The high pressure now east of the Bahamas is supporting persistent
fresh to strong trade winds across the eastern and central
Caribbean, with winds pulsing to gale force off Colombia. Seas are
likely 6 to 9 ft over much of this area, except up to 12 ft off
Colombia.
A fairly dry pattern has set up across the Caribbean, limiting
shower activity to a few training cells in the trade wind flow
north of the ABC Islands, and to a lesser extent over Puerto Rico.
Very little shower activity is evident across the Windward and
Leeward Islands.
Little change is expected for the forecast through the remainder
of the week. High pressure north of the region will continue to support
fresh to strong trade winds across the eastern and central
Caribbean through Sat, with winds pulsing to gale force off the
coast of Colombia mainly during overnight and early morning hours.
Strong NE winds are possible in the Windward Passage Wed night
and again Fri night.
It looks as if the Caribbean winds are the only one around, but I suspect cool air has crept back under the Caribbean air, causing all this cloud over the Yucatan and Belize. No noticeable trace of any high level winds and no surface wind either this morning. There is however some patches of thick cloud over coastal north areas and patchy cloud over central Belize.
Looks as if this morning will be cloudy for most of Belize, there could be the odd rain shower in some central and northern areas this morning.
Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 22°C 72°F Yesterday 28°C 82°F Yesterday Rain 0.1 mm ( 0")
It looks as if the easterly Caribbean winds are still fighting surface cool air and resulting in a fair amount of patchy cloud, some causing rain, some heavy rain. This will probably reduce later this morning.
Present Condition: Partly cloudy. A relatively moist northeasterly airflow prevails over the area.
24hr Forecast: Some cloudy spells along with a few brief showers occurring around the country this afternoon, and then mostly over southern and some coastal areas tonight and tomorrow morning.
Outlook: For Wednesday afternoon through to midday on Thursday is for isolated showers, with the chance of a few more occurring over southern parts of the country.
