Sargassum Forecast from February 25 to March 2: It's back in San Pedro... Observations suggest that there is the chance of a few sargassum mats affecting beaches. Except for some passing showers in the NE Caribbean, the remainder basin continues under the influence of dry air subsidence from aloft, thus supporting fair weather. Strong trade winds across the central and portions of the SW Caribbean will continue through Wed, except in the south-central basin where strong winds will prevail through Fri night. Gale force winds near the coast of Colombia will continue through this morning, then pulse at night and into the early morning hours through Wed. It is clear that the easterly Caribbean winds are in firm control of everything over the entire Yucatan area. Morning clear skies, but cloud starting to develop inland. Heavier clouds up north, could cause a little rain to San Pedro later.

Looks as if today will be mainly sunny and dry, with clouds developing.

River Conditions

REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek, Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman, Douglas and downstream to the coast, levels are near normal and falling. On the NEW RIVER at the Tower Hill and Caledonia stations, levels are normal and steady. REGION 9 - On the MACAL RIVER reservoir levels at all BECOL facilities are below the spillways; and at San Ignacio, levels remains below the low-level bridge and steady. Levels on the MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town are near normal and falling.

The BELIZE RIVER at the Double Run station is near normal and falling. The CROOKED TREE LAGOON is above normal and continues to decrease.

REGION 11 - Levels on the SIBUN RIVER at Freetown Sibun is near normal and steady. Levels on the SOUTHERN LAGOON near Gales Point Village is near normal and steady. The watersheds on the EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MAYAN MOUNTAINS are near normal and steady. The SITTEE RIVER at Kendal Bridge is above normal and steady. The Swasey and Bladen branches of the MONKEY RIVER are below normal and falling. Levels on the DEEP RIVER at Medina Bank are below normal and steady. Levels on the RIO GRANDE at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls South are below normal and steady. On the MOHO RIVER at Blue Creek South and Jordan levels are near normal steady. On the TEMASH RIVER near Crique Sarco levels are below normal and falling.

REGION 13 - On the SARSTOON RIVER levels are normal and steady.

***SUPPORT OUR THREE LAGOONS SUSTAINBALE PROJECT (TSLP)***

Warm greetings to all our supporters , members and general public. On February 14th, 2021 TLSP continued our mangrove reforesting project which began at Chunox and now extends the project to beautiful Progresso village.

We had a pleasant visit by the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation representatives on that same day.

Miss. Stephanie Budd also helped us do some transplanting of the mangrove seedlings.

TLSP transplanted 130 mangrove on February 28th, 2021, reaching to 1000 and plus including seeds and seedlings planted and transplanted at Laguna Seca and Progresso lagoon.

Huge thanks to the Eco-Guardians of Progresso and Chunox who have done most of the mangrove reforestation.

Our mangrove ecosystem is important as a habitat ( fish and birds), wind break , prevents erosion and helps to build the soil and most importantly, it is a natural filter to our bodies of water ( lakes , lagoons and rivers).

Thanks to our mangrove ecosystem we have the longest living reef system in the world.
