It looks like people got government’s message to go get vaccinated. This is the really long line, this morning, that cuts around the block “twice” from the Lions Den where COVId-19 vaccines are being administered.
San Pedro answering the call to get vaxed; tourism sector leading by example
With the news that a variant of COVID-19 is in the country and infections are on the rise, the Government of Belize (GOB) launched a vaccine campaign urging as many Belizeans as possible to get the jab. In San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye islanders have answered the call, and several business establishments are informing the public that their staff is vaccinated. Ambergris Caye heavily depends on tourism as it is considered Belize’s prime tourism destination. Tourism has significantly increased on the island, and to ensure a safe environment for customers and tourists, many stakeholders have encouraged their workforce to get immunized. With GOB’s announcement that anyone ages 18 and over is eligible to get the vaccine, either AstraZeneca or Sinopharm, San Pedro has seen an increase in persons seeking the jab. A long line of people can be observed in downtown San Pedro as they wait their turn to enter the Lions Den to get the vaccine.
Appointments are not necessary but encouraged, and if businesses would like to bring their entire staff to get vaxed, that can be arranged. The medical team from the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II can assist with the arrangement. Below are some images featuring the different businesses proudly showcasing their vaccinated staff. The government is requiring all persons, in particular from the service/tourism industry, who are yet to be vaccinated, to do so during the month of July. If anyone decides against getting the jab, they will be required to present a negative COVID-19 test every two weeks to their employer. This test will be at their own expense. A test from a private entity usually costs around BZ$150.

Coming on here only to share these clarifications. I want to understand why people will not do their part and by that I mean:
If you ina line: Wear yuh mask, social distance and tell others to do the same.
If you ina line and late for work: REMIND your employer that getting vaccinated is important and GO back at an earlier time.
If you ina line: REMEMBER that the ppl working at the Lion's den are VOLUNTEERS - UNPAID, using their own data, using their own phone numbers and using their OWN TIME to HELP U.
If you ina line: Remember that You cuda get ina line from March, but yet here you are and I am proud of you! YES! Im proud!
DON'T GIVE UP and do your part because at the end of the day - THIS IS FOR ALL OF US!
MOH is doing their part, Hon. Michel Chebat and Ministry of Health & Wellness Belize are doing their part, Mayor Wally Nunez and San Pedro Town Council are doing their part, Hon. Andre Perez and his team are doing their part, volunteers like Karen Brodie and Brittney ODaniel are doing their part so LETS DO OUR PART.
The rest ah uno weh no ready to get vaccinated - FINE. Do your part too, Allow and respect those of us that do and consider supporting the ones who are hard at work.

Kristina Romero:
It is quite upsetting to have people in our community quickly trample on the efforts by our local Ministry of Health personnel on the island regarding the Covid-19 vaccine... so instead of ranting, I will offer some clarification:
1. The Nurses, Doctors and Public Health Personnel in San Pedro do not only have the Vaccination Center to tend to, they must also have the Poly Clinic functioning for medical issues, and they must also be operational at the Flu Clinic to test potential Covid-19 patients.
2. The Vaccination Center at the Lion's Den is ran for the most part by volunteers, who take time to be there registering people prior to the vaccination as well as scheduling people for the second dose of the vaccine.
3. The reason that the online registration is currently not being used and people are not being scheduled for the first dose is because people were simply not filling out the form and just showing up at the Lion's Den. So instead of turning them back, the volunteers, are registering them on site and the nurses vaccinate them.
4. People who have received the first dose are being scheduled to come in for their second dose. This is done because we recognize that some people might forget when to come in and as such the volunteers ensure that everyone who has gotten the first vaccine is called in at the correct time to receive the second.
5. The volunteers and staff at the Vaccination Center should not be held responsible for people not adhering to social distancing. We are all adults... everyone going for vaccinations are over 18 and as such we are responsible for our own actions.
6. Through the San Pedro Town Council and volunteers, people who are unable to come to Lion's Den due to transportation issues, are being picked up and brought to the Lion's Den to receive the vaccine.
So, a huge shout out and greater thanks to staff and volunteers who have been working diligently to ensure that our community is safe from the Covid-19 virus!

COVID-19 vaccines still available at Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II
While the World Health Organization signaled the possible end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the public is advised to continue taking the necessary precautions as the virus persists. In San Pedro Town, vaccines against the virus that has killed over six million people worldwide are still available at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II on Fridays from 8AM to 2PM.
The type of vaccines available includes AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson, and the clinic also has booster shots. The latest report from September 13th from the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) states that there are 136 active cases countrywide, and since the pandemic hit the country in March of 2020, a total of 680 Belizeans have perished from the disease. The latest shows that San Pedro reported 13 new cases, the second highest after Belize City. MOHW continues to encourage those who have not received their vaccines. It’s free of cost and has proven to protect against COVID-19 infection. The ministry is also encouraging persons aged five and older to get vaccinated and, of course, if it is your time to get a booster, to do so.
