On Wednesday, March 10th, Commissioner of Police (ComPol) Chester Williams issued a stern warning regarding social events/gatherings for Easter. In a press release, the ComPol said that such activities are still prohibited under the current COVID-19 regulations. ComPol said that it has come to the Belize Police Department's (BPD) attention that some individuals and businesses are currently advertising major social events for the Easter weekend. "These persons and entities are hereby warned that, as the regulations stand, these events are strictly prohibited," part of the release said.

In addition, the general public is advised that they are not to attend or partake in any of these events. The police will be out in full force, enforcing all COVID-19 regulations. Anyone found attending or partaking in any of these events will be dealt with to the full extent of the law.

Despite the various warnings by the Belize Police Department, and the Ministry of Health and Wellness on the importance of strict adherence to the COVID-19 regulations, persons are insistent on breaching these regulations. In particular, across the country, some persons are still acting recklessly by hosting and attending social gatherings.

It has come to the notice of the department that there are some individuals and businesses that are currently advertising major social events for the Easter Weekend. These persons and entities are hereby warned that, as the regulations now stand, these events are strictly prohibited.

The general public is advised that they are not to attend or partake in any of these events. The department's personnel will be out in full force enforcing all COVID-19 regulations. Persons found attending or partaking in any of these events will be dealt with to the full extent of the law.

The Belize Police Department, therefore, call on all our citizens to work with us by ensuring full compliance with the measures being implemented to ensure that we keep our country free from the COVID-19 virus. "We are here for you to ensure that we keep our country COVID-19 free.
