by Ben PopikMany of you know about my enthusiastic love of diving and cave diving, so you'll understand my excitement to share this milestone with you. Yesterday, while exploring some new caves on the northernmost end of Ambergris Caye, my cave diving buddy Arielle and I found this gorgeous, intact Mayan pot 70-feet below the ground above.
Needless to say, we were ecstatic.
We've already been in touch with an archaeologist from the National Institute of Culture & History, where we learned that this type of water-carrying pot was used by the Mayans for collecting water for sacred rituals. We're going to go back later this week to take measurements and see if we can find other offerings. I'll keep you posted.
Only in Belize!
