The Caribbean Sea
Broad mid to upper level south-southwest flow covers the basin
which is advecting moisture across the region from the tropical
eastern Pacific Ocean. A surface trough extends from the eastern
Pacific Ocean to south of the Gulf of Panama to across northern
Colombia with clusters of scattered to numerous showers and
thunderstorms over central and northern Colombia. This convection
has frequent lightning with heavy rainfall also possible.
High pressure is located north of the basin. A fairly weak
pressure pattern prevails across the region with winds locally to
fresh in the lee of central and eastern Cuba, across the Windward
Passage, south of Hispaniola, and north of northern Colombia.
Mainly gentle to moderate trades prevail elsewhere early this
morning. Seas are in the 2-4 ft range in the northwest and eastern
Caribbean, and 3-5 ft in the central Caribbean, locally to 6 ft.
High pressure north of the basin will continue to support fresh
winds and moderate seas in the lee of Cuba, and the Windward
Passage through early today. As high pressure shifts east, winds
and seas will begin to diminish over the area. By Fri night, fresh
to strong E to SE winds and building seas will return across the
central and northwest Caribbean from the Gulf of Honduras through
the Yucatan Channel with fresh to strong NE to E winds and
building seas develop south of Hispaniola.
On Ambergris Caye this morning we have a breeze from the East at 12 mph and a calm sea around our barrier reef. The expected high temperature for the day is 88 f.
Still the SW high level clouds are dominating the weather in our area. There is a slow easterly Caribbean wind. The combination is causing fog at present is some areas. Some sunshine through gaps in the clouds, presently up in the north.
Looks as if today will be largely cloudy, both low Caribbean and high clouds, and some sunshine between them sometimes, probably little or no rain today.
Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 23°C 74°F 29°C 85°F Yesterday Rain 0 mm ( 0")
