KREM News has confirmed with the Belize Poultry Association that a decision was made to increase the price of poultry beginning Tuesday, April 6. The BPA says the increase is due to an increase in the cost of corn and soybean used for feed.
On average the price of:
- WHOLE CHICKEN will go up by 6 cents per pound ($ .06)
- CHICKEN PARTS will go up by 16 cents per pound ($ .16)
- SPECIAL CHICKEN will go up by 10 cents per pound ($ .10)
These new prices will vary slightly by company.
According to the BPA, previously, a sack of corn was bought for between $22 to $24 and is now costing $30.
The BPA says the previous price for soybean was between $45 and $46 and that has now gone up to $62.
