The Caribbean Sea
A trough that extends W into the eastern Pacific continues west to
the coast of Colombia along 10N. Scattered moderate convection is
ongoing within 90 nm either side of this trough. Deep layer dry
air is elsewhere, favoring fair weather conditions. The pressure
gradient between higher pressure in the central Atlantic and lower
pressure over the Gulf of Mexico is allowing for fresh to locally
trade winds over the central Caribbean, including the waters
between Jamaica and Cuba and within the Gulf of Honduras. Seas are
generally 4 to 7 ft.
For the forecast, fresh to strong SE winds will persist north of
central Honduras into tonight, between the ridge and lower
pressure over the southwest Gulf of Mexico. The high will shift
east ahead of a weak front moving through the Gulf allowing trade
winds to increase over mainly the south central Caribbean early
this week.
Big changes coming in our weather. There was that swellup on our western border, and a much larger swellup down south Honduras. There has been wind coming down from the north, first from the Pacific, and this morning from central USA over the Gulf and coming in at us from the west. This has been clashing with the almost stationary Caribbean air and with the high level from the SW. the result, a lot of cloud over much of the Yucatan but also high humidity.
Looks as if much of today will be cloudy, some thin, some heavy, so could be some rain and possibly swellups this afternoon.
Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 25°C 78°F 35°C 95°F Yesterday Rain 0 mm ( 0")
Looks as if the two opposing winds in the north are producing a lot of cloud. And another high level wind and the low west incoming wind producing clouds against the mountains. Presently no lightning, but I suspect there will be rain and lightning in both those areas later.
Present Condition: Partly cloudy in the country, also partly cloudy and windy in San Pedro. Hot and dry weather prevaling, then later some instability and moisture sets in. Residents, especially those inland, are advised to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activity as much as possible.
24hr Forecast: Cloudy skies with a few sunny breaks today. Tonight skies will be mostly cloudy. Outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms will develop mainly over inland and southern areas of the country this evening. Then spreading to most areas tonight, but more so over the southern areas.
Outlook: For Monday afternoon thru to Tuesday afternoon is for cloudy spells, shower activity will be generally isolated, except for inland areas of the country where a few more showers and thunderstorms are possible.
