Buckingham Palace Approves Froyla Tzalam for GG
It is official - Buckingham Palace has approved the appointment of Froyla Tzalam as the next Governor General of Belize. Over the weekend, News Five spoke with Tzalam who was on a tour with officials from the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples' Affairs in the south. The former executive director of the Sarstoon Temash Institute for Indigenous Management, will now transition to becoming the Queen's representative in Belize, replacing former G.G. Sir Colville Young, who officially demitted the post last Friday.
Froyla Tzalam, Designate, Governor General of Belize
"When I was first asked to consider, I felt honoured and humbled, because it was never an office I ever thought about, perhaps because so few have held it. People want to be doctors, nurses, teachers, farmers, but no one ever says I want to be the G.G. So I live my life not knowing if I will see tomorrow, thinking that if I can make a difference, if my work counts for anything, I must do that work today, not tomorrow."
Dolores Balderamos-Garcia, Minister for Indigenous People's Affairs
"The appointment of Miss Tzalam which has now been approved by Buckingham Palace. We are thrilled. Froyla, not only do I call her a friend, but I know her to be a woman of dynamism, a woman of substance, a woman of keen intellect who really grasps all the developmental issues of our country."
