We were on a Amigo's Boat (Miss Mel) diving at the Blue Hole on July 5 when a diver died. They were doing CPR on him for almost 2 hours before the medivac plane picked him up at Lighthouse Reef. I have searched the online papers from Belize and can find NO INFORMATION on this event. We just wanted to know a few more details about this situation. All I know is his name was Don and he had a wife and son onboard with him. He seemed to be American, but could have been Canadian. He was about 50. If anyone out there knows what happened, we would like to know something. It is remotely possible that they were able to revive him once he got to Belize City, due to the heroic efforts of several other divers.

Thanks! ~devany

Whoa, a shocker. I often wondered what happens in a medical emergency in such a remote spot. We met a diver in Indonesia who had worldwide, medivac insurance, which would take him to the nearest hospital or medical facility as necessary. (we are snorkelers) I can't remember what the name of it was, but that always seemed like a great idea. The trick is, communicating with radio, cell phone in such an emergency would also be a factor. Anyone have any more info on this incident? I guess it happened on July 5...wonder why we havent' heard more?
