General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly cloudy skies south of Belize City, clear in the north. Mostly clear and windy in San Pedro. Generally fair weather continues around the country.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Sunny today and partly cloudy tonight. Showers will be isolated.
Winds: E, 5-15 kts
Sea State: Light Chop
Waves: 2-4 ft.
Sea Surface Temperature (°f): 85
Outlook: For Saturday and Saturday night is for continued fair weather with only isolated showers.
Sargassum Forecast from May 25 to June 2: Satellite imagery continue to show an abundance of sargassum over the northwest Caribbean Sea. Although, ocean currents should take most of these mats to the northern Yucatan Peninsula, there is still a medium chance that some mats could affect coastal Belize. San Pedro has a Medium probability and a moderate impact.
Tropical Weather Outlook: Tropical cyclone formation is not expected in the North Atlantic, the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico during the next 48 hours. Click for more...

The Caribbean Sea

High pressure prevails north of the Caribbean. Fresh to locally strong winds prevail over the south central Caribbean. Gentle to moderate winds are noted elsewhere. Seas are in the 6-8 ft range over the south central Caribbean, 2-3 ft over the far NW Caribbean, and 4-6 ft elsewhere.

Fresh to strong trades across the south central Caribbean will diminish tonight through early next week as high pressure across the SW N Atlc weakens. Fresh winds are expected in the southern Gulf of Honduras each night through the weekend.

On Ambergris Caye this morning we have a wind from the East at 13 mph creating a calm sea condition around our barrier. The expected high temperature for the day is set at 88 f.

The easterly Caribbean winds have less cloud in then this morning, some overnight SW has resulted in some cloud over southern Belize, which should clear shortly, no sign of rain at present.

Looks as if today will be mainly sunny, but with some clouds developing late morning, no rain expected.

Present Condition: Clouds reducing as the day goes on. Now mostly in the south. Mostly clear and windy in San Pedro. Easterly airflow is supporting mainly fair weather.

24hr Forecast: Today skies will be mostly sunny. Tonight skies will be partly cloudy with some clear spells. Shower activity will be isolated.

Outlook: For Saturday afternoon thru to Sunday afternoon is for isolated showers or an isolated inland afternoon thunderstorms to develop on Saturday. Then on Sunday expect a few showers to develop over southern areas, elsewhere shower activity will be isolated.

Flood Report and Forecast for May 28, 2021

River Conditions

REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek, Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman, Douglas and downstream to the coast, levels are normal and steady. On the NEW RIVER at Tower Hill, water level is below normal and steady; and at Caledonia, levels are near normal and falling.

REGION 9 - On the MACAL RIVER reservoir levels at all BECOL facilities are below the spillways; and at San Ignacio, levels remain below the low-level bridge and steady. Levels on the MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town are near normal and steady.

The BELIZE RIVER at the Double Run station is below normal and steady. The CROOKED TREE LAGOON is below the causeway and falling.

REGION 11 - Levels on the SIBUN RIVER at Freetown Sibun is near normal. Levels on the SOUTHERN LAGOON near Gales Point Village is near normal and steady. The watersheds on the EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MAYAN MOUNTAINS are near normal and steady. The SITTEE RIVER at Kendal Bridge is above normal and steady. The Swasey and Bladen branches of the MONKEY RIVER are below normal and steady. Levels on the DEEP RIVER at Medina Bank are below normal and steady. Levels on the RIO GRANDE at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls South are below normal and steady. The MOHO RIVER at Blue Creek South is normal and steady and at Jordan levels are above normal and falling. On the TEMASH RIVER near Crique Sarco levels are above normal and falling.

REGION 13 - On the SARSTOON RIVER levels are normal and steady.

FLOOD FORECAST

REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO no significant change is expected. On the NEW RIVER at Tower Hill and Caledonia, no significant change in river levels is expected

REGION 9 - On the MACAL RIVER, reservoir levels are expected to remain below the spillway at all BECOL facilities; at San Ignacio, levels are expected to remain below the low-level bridge. On the MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town, no significant change in river levels is expected.
