Dixie Bowen deserves kudos and thanks for her diligence and service in maintaining this school for so many years. She has done this because she believes in kids and education - not for profit (there was none). And despite changing times (from covid to econmics) she has found a way to have the school continue.

Dixie has said there will be NO highrise anything there. Unless/until Dixie lets folks know something, what comes next is just speculation or gossip.

Island Academy is all grown up and leaving home for a new adventure. They are moving everything, two buildings have left already today, the white one and the green one.

Island Academy Update
Update on the Island Academy being moved to Mahogany Bay Village.

The Island Academy relocates to its new home

When the new school year begins at The Island Academy (TIA) in San Pedro Town, they will welcome its students at a new location. The new home of the private, non-profit primary school will be at a property within the Mahogany Bay Village development located south of downtown San Pedro. Founder Lady Dixie Bowen explained that an opportunity arose to move the school to a more family/community-oriented area. Bowen stated that there would be no changes to management or the school’s ownership. The only difference is the relocation of the institution from Coconut Drive to the gated Mahogany Bay community. TIA’s new home will be on a piece of property belonging to David and Lisette Mitchell, who were more than happy to welcome the opportunity to have the school in their area.

TIA was founded in 1995 by Lady Dixie Bowen and her late husband, Sir Barry Bowen. The primary school was created with a vision to enhance the level of education for the island children. The Bowens have financed all aspects of the school without gaining profit from it. TIA has and continues to be their primary contribution to the island community seeking to provide children the educational and social foundations necessary to develop their potential and become productive citizens.
