BELIZE BOTANIC GARDEN, NEAR SAN IGNACIO Here is a great garden story: Way back in 1987, the DuPlooy family of Charleston, SC packed up their six person family and dog in their Chevy Suburban and drove direct to western Belize. Despite horrible roads and torrential rain, they found a farm that they loved near San Ignacio - and bought it. The farm is now home to Belize Botanic Garden; it is located on the Macal River. Soon thereafter, construction of the Botanic Gardens began. At the farm, the family started planting an extensive collection of native Belize palms and rare orchids. A tropical fruit orchard was started to experiment with fruits not commonly grown in Belize at that time. Today, the gardens are a must see for all botanical garden lovers.

A Short Walk with Khailee Sarai at the Belize Botanical Garden The Belize Botanic Garden found in the Cayo District and situated by the banks of the Mopan River. Visitors can find a large variety of native plants with many other exotic plants. At this time of our visit, the second and last class of home gardening was going on, where Mr. Rudy Aguilar was the presenter to some 15 participants from the Cayo District. Among the adults, was 9-year old Khailee Sarai.
