Robert Chandler Morris (Dr. Bob)
Dear San Pedro or Isla Bonita as Robert (Dr. Bob) Morris would call it.
It's with sadness I'm writing to tell you of Robert Chandler Morris passing. Bob lived a great 89 years before he passed away peacefully on June 23rd, 2021. He was in his hometown of Chrisman, Illinois, along side his wife Sara (Ms Sarita) of 66 years.
What a heart warming love story and what an amazing man!!
Bob grew up in a small county of Illinois where he graduated President and Salutatorian of his High School. After High School he Studied Veterinary Medicine, married Sara and soon after found himself moving to Bargersville Indiana. Where he and Sara raised a family and built one of the First Animal Clinic's. This was their home for many years along with San Pedro. Bob was a Scuba Diver, he ran Marathons at 50, He and Sara both sang and played several musical instruments, they even had a band that performed at county fairs. Later they visited nursing homes to put smiles on the residence faces with their music. Music was a big part of Bob's life. Bob was also on the board of the local bank and enjoyed his Sulky Race horse races.
The Morris Family traveled to Belize for the first time more than 47 years ago. On that first visit they stayed at The Paradise Hotel (now the Phoenix). After a few visits to San Pedro it was clear Bob, Sara and their son's Bobby, Rich and Tim were hooked. So they decided to purchase a salty piece of paradise to call their own. A little palmetto stick built home on the beach near Corona Del Mar they called it "their heart and home away from the USA."
Bob loved walking the beach to and from town often. He and Sara hand in hand headed south towards their San Pedro Home often. Stopping at BC's Bar for a cocktail and of course visiting local and tourist friends. A little further past Crazy Canuks Beach Bar they reached "Casita Las Morris" . It was carved on the lil' handmade sign for anyone to see as they walked the beaches of La Isla Bonita.
During Bob's last visit three years ago, he would get joy out of hearing "Dr. Bob" while driving the golf cart around. It seemed clear he was well known in San Pedro. Both Dr. Bob and Sara, were great additions to Ambergris Caye. Bob helping with Animals, Sara with the Humanity. Dr. Bob assisted SAGA Society as a part of the Safety Animal Control Committee. He sincerely wanted to help with the numerous domestic animal problems facing Ambergris Caye. One picture showing Bob preforming surgery on an animal in the kitchen of Casita Las Morris says it all.
Both Bob and Sara learning to speak Spanish helped them make lots of local friends too. They even found themselves helping run the small hotel Corona Del Mar or working at Georges Kitchen from time to time. In his last visits to San Pedro he could be found here on the veranda happy hour at the Belize Yacht Club.
There will be a small grave side service only AND at the Family Request if you like you may make a donation to Daniel Gonzalez's Ambergris Hope Clinic In Dr. Bob Morris name. Dr. Gonzalez's Clinic was of great importance to both Bob and Sara. The Clinic Phone number is 501-226-2660 .
