Importers are hereby notified of the on-going registration process for biodegradable products by the Department of the Environment (DOE) and the Belize Bureau of Standards. If a biodegradable product is not registered, it will not be allowed to be imported.
The Pollution from Plastics Regulations require a registration process, which includes the submission of the following information for each product:
1. The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
2. A copy of the conformity test report from the certified laboratory
3. A copy of the third-party certificate (if applicable)
4. A sample of each product to be registered
All documents are to be submitted in English. The test report must not be older than five years and the certificate must not be older than three years. Registration of products must be done on or before July 23, 2021, after which the DOE will only be issuing permits for registered products.
All importers are urged to register their products to avoid any unnecessary delays. Incomplete submissions will not be processed; therefore, importers must ensure that all relevant documents are submitted in one package.
