The much-awaited upgrade of 4th Avenue is now in 4th gear. With BWS having completed the arduous work of replacing main pipelines and improving water pressure for residents, works have now begun to pave 4th Avenue from 1st Street South to 3rd Street South.

We advise motorists and pedestrian that access to this section will be significantly interrupted for the next two weeks. Just prior to the paving stage, access to this section will be prohibited and the public will be duly notified.

The improvement of 4th Avenue is part of the Council's transformation of downtown Corozal Town, and also part of the Council's and the Government of Belize's commitment to improved infrastructure in Corozal Town.

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are advised that access to 4th Avenue, from 1st St. South to 3rd St. South will be completely closed starting today, Monday July 19th, to facilitate the paving of that section of the avenue.

Motorists, in particular, are advised not to use this section and are warned that CTC traffic wardens will issue tickets to persons who do not adhere to this advisory.

The public will be advised about the opening of the section, at the appropriate time, following its paving.

More progress.... Major portion of 4gth Avenue primed and covered with sand until dry...

The Primer has been laid down first. After the primer settles in, the Asphalt is placed as it's first coat. The primer is done to further the life of the road and then the first and second coat of paving with asphalt is what goes after.

A team from Ministry of Infrastructure Development & Housing, Medina's Construction and Corozal Town Council are this morning preparing a major portion of 4th Avenue for final completion of paving and chip seal.
What is chip and seal: "Chipseals are constructed by evenly distributing a thin base of hot tar, bitumen or asphalt onto an existing pavement and then embedding finely graded aggregate into it. The aggregate is evenly distributed over the hot seal spray, then rolled into the bitumen using heavy rubber tired rollers creating a paved surface. A chip-seal-surfaced pavement can optionally be sealed with a top layer, which is referred to as a fog seal or enrichment".
