Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

There are two tropical waves in the Atlantic, and one in the Caribbean.

Thunderstorms continue across the far SW portions of the Gulf of Honduras. Additionally, thunderstorms are noted in the SW Caribbean S of 11N between 77W and 84W. Otherwise, pressure gradient between the Azores high to the north of the area and low pressure across Colombia is leading to fresh to strong trade winds in the central Caribbean with seas 8 to 10 ft. Moderate trades are noted elsewhere with seas 3 to 6 ft.

For the forecast, the Azores high extending a ridge to the northern Caribbean will continue to support fresh to strong trade winds in the central Caribbean through Mon morning. Fresh to locally strong winds can be expected across this region through the rest of the week. A tropical wave moving across the central basin will support scattered showers across the NW Caribbean through tonight.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

There are currently no organized tropical systems found across the basin at this time and none are expected to develop through at least early this week. Dry, dusty air continues to dominate the open Atlantic and no significant features support any development in the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean.

While the entire basin remains quite tranquil for now, tropical waves coming off the African coast are starting to clear away some of the dry, dusty air and provide a boost of tropical moisture to the main developmental region of the basin. This trend is expected to continue into the middle of August, with the chances for tropical development increasing as a result during that time.

The Saharan Dust continues to be ejected into the Tropical Atlantic and will continue for at least the next 5-10 days. That is a very good thing as this dust creates a dry pocket of air between 5,000ft and 15,000ft which basically closes the lid and keeps Tropical Systems from developing. the last half of August and into September is when I'm looking for the dust to settle down and activity start to spin up in the Atlantic.

So for the next couple of weeks, while things are quiet, you should be making sure that your annual Hurricane Prep is done and ready to go.

There has been some heavy rains over southern Belize over night and presently a largish Swell up over central Belize. It looks as if there is still a lot of rain in inland central areas and probably continuing for the next few hours. Not a lot of cloud out at sea but some.

Atlantic Ocean There is no tropical storm activity for this region.

Today
Looks as if it will be rather mixed weather, Rain, some heavy already in parts of central Belize, and on and off over much of the day. A lower chance of rain to the north.

Tonight
This pattern could continue into the night, a chance of ore rain over night.
