For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

There are currently no organized tropical systems found across the basin at this time and none are expected to develop through at least the middle of the week. Dry, dusty air continues to dominate the open Atlantic, and no significant features support any development in the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean.

While the entire basin remains quite tranquil for now, tropical waves coming off the African coast are starting to clear away some of the dry, dusty air and provide a boost of tropical moisture to the main developmental region of the basin. This trend is expected to continue into the middle of August, with the chances for tropical development increasing as a result during that time. There is a new tropical wave near the Cabo Verde Islands that will have a small chance to become better organized later in the week. Any strengthening of this tropical wave is likely to be slow as it moves north and west throughout the week.

The National Hurricane Center has begun monitoring an area with low pressure located over the East of the Tropical Atlantic, it is producing unorganized rain and thunderstorms, some development of this system is possible over the next few days as it moves north and then towards the northwest.

There are many patches of cloud coming in with the easterly Caribbean winds. There are a number of large ITCZ swellups over the Honduras coast that could move our way later today, but just might break up before they get to Belize. They are probably being caused by clashing with high level winds from the NE over the Caribbean.

Today
There are again, many rain showers over parts of Belize, less than yesterday. These are likely to continue, so there can be rain in any place at any time today. So significant clouds around, but also areas of sunshine from time to time.

Tonight
Probably similar for much of the night.

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last Night 25°C 77°F Yesterday max. 31°C 88°F Yesterday Rain 15.8 mm ( .6") Over Night Rain 2 mm ( 0.1" )

Crown Weather...

The Rest Of This Week Looks Quiet Across The Atlantic, Caribbean & Gulf Of Mexico; Tropical Development Chances Still Look To Gradually Increase This Weekend & Especially Next Week

Things continue to be quiet across the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico and no tropical development is expected throughout the rest of this week.

Turning towards this weekend and especially next week and beyond, it appears that activity will very likely ramp up as has been expected. Backing up this forecast are the various model guidance members, which are gradually trending towards showing development within the next week or so.

I think that we are seeing a bias in all of the model guidance in that they've been over forecasting eastern Pacific tropical development given that there is an intensifying La Nina now going on. What seems to be gradually happening is that all of the model guidance are slowly trending towards forecasting less Eastern Pacific activity (which would be correct) and I think that we should probably see the guidance begin to forecast tropical development in the Atlantic in some of its future forecast runs.

Right now, the eastern Tropical Atlantic is still unfavorable for any sort of development due to an abundance of dry air. This means that tropical development from the two tropical waves in the eastern Tropical Atlantic is not expected anytime soon.

Conditions may become more favorable for the tropical waves over the eastern Tropical Atlantic to develop as they near the northeastern Caribbean during the first half of next week and then possibly head for the area near the Bahamas later next week. At this point, it's nothing to be overly concerned about, but it is something to definitely keep an eye on.
