According to reliable reports, the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in Belize City is at and above capacity for critical patients. All ICU's are full and the COVID unit is "overflowing". The hospital cannot accept any transfers from anywhere and have advised its counterparts.

The third wave of COVID has put a terrible strain on the hospital that is also flooded with patients due to the spike of violence in the country.

K.H.M.H. Clarifies Position to COVID-19 Response

Earlier today, word spread like wildfire that the national referral hospital was at and above capacity for critical patients. The information being posted on social media was that all intensive care units were full; that the COVID units overflowed and that the surgical ward was full and overflowing to the medical ward. There was also the rumour that the K.H.M.H. could not accept any transfers from anywhere. News Five was told by one source that this may have originated with an internal message that got blown out of proportion. In response to widespread concern, however, this afternoon, the K.H.M.H. Authority issued a release assuring the public that the hospital is not in emergency mode. It does however say that "the second phase of our COVID-19 response was activated to increase space to accommodate additional emergency patients. Resources are constrained, but we are able to deliver services as the National Referral Hospital."
