The Caribbean Sea

There are two tropical waves in the Atlantic, and two in the Caribbean.

Fresh to strong E-SE winds are noted in the Gulf of Honduras region early this morning due to a locally tight pressure gradient, along with seas of 5 to 8 ft. Mainly moderate to locally fresh trades prevail elsewhere along with seas of 3 to 6 ft, locally to 7 ft offshore of the northern coast of Colombia. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are noted in the Caribbean from north of the A-B-C Islands to south of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola between 65W and 71W, with similar activity in the western Caribbean.

For the forecast, moderate to fresh trade winds will dominate elsewhere, except for nightly pulsing locally fresh to strong winds in the Gulf of Honduras through Sat night, and also in the central Caribbean early next week.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

...GRACE EXPECTED TO BECOME A HURRICANE AGAIN SOON...

At 4 a.m. CDT, the center of Tropical Storm Grace was located over the Gulf of Mexico about 265 miles (425 km) east of Tuxpan, Mexico. Grace is moving toward the west near 16 mph (26 km/h). A westward to west-southwestward motion at a slightly slower forward speed is expected during the next day or two. On the forecast track, the center of Grace is forecast to move across the southwestern Gulf of Mexico today, and then make landfall along the coast of mainland Mexico this evening or tonight.

Maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles (240 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 994 mb (29.36 inches). Strengthening is likely until Grace makes landfall, and the system is expected to regain hurricane strength this morning. After landfall, Grace should weaken rapidly as it moves into the mountains of central Mexico.

Tropical Storm Henri is slowly moving to the west, and it will begin to move to the north over the next 12-24 hours. Henri will create increased swells and rough surf over much of the east coast of the United States through much of the week.

We are also watching a few tropical waves, either across the tropical Atlantic or emerging off the African coast this week, but development with these seems unlikely at this time.

The hurricane is still throwing high level cloud our way, but very little rain. Some out at sea, but not much. The easterly Caribbean winds are starting up again.

Today
Presently, there is a mixture of overcast cloud, some normal clouds, and some high level clouds in places, and sunshine also coming through in many places. It does not look as if we will get much rain today, perhaps a few isolated rain showers.

Tonight
Cloud patches continuing so could be the odd over night rain.
