For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

At 5 a.m. EDT, the center of Hurricane Henri was located over the Atlantic Ocean about 80 miles (125 km) south-southeast of Montauk Point, New York, and about 120 miles (190 km) south of Providence, Rhode Island. Henri is moving toward the north near 18 mph (30 km/h). A decrease in forward speed and a turn toward the north-northwest is expected this morning. On the forecast track, Henri is expected to make landfall in southern New England or on Long Island late this morning or early this afternoon. After landfall, a turn to the north and a slower forward speed are expected as Henri moves over southern New England.

Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km). The latest minimum central pressure estimated from Air Force Hurricane Hunter data is 986 mb (29.12 inches). Little change in strength is expected this morning, and Henri is forecast to be at or near hurricane strength when it reaches the coasts of southern New England and Long island. Rapid weakening is expected after Henri makes landfall.

Grace has mainly dissipated over the mountains of Mexico to a tropical rainstorm as it continues to move to the west. Grace may re-form over the warm water of the eastern Pacific Ocean over the next few days, but if it is named, it is likely to take a new name.

We are also watching a few tropical waves, either across the tropical Atlantic or emerging off the African coast this week, but development with these seems unlikely for the next few days.

On Ambergris Caye this morning we have a wind from the East at 12 mph creating a moderate sea state around our barrier reef. Today's expected high temperature is set at 84 f. A beautiful morning after a stormy night.

As mentioned yesterday, as the hurricane moves away, it is leaving a large open sky area, but cloud has moving in behind it from the Caribbean. That cloud, mainly caused by high level winds from the SW but turning round over the Caribbean and going towards the Gulf. Looks as if these high level clouds will be clashing with the easterly Caribbean winds for a day or so.

Today
Looks as if today will have a lot of cloud, some normal low level, a lot of high level, and so significant clashing and rain in places, presently mainly in central and south areas.

Tonight
Probably continuing to be cloudy and areas of rain.

There is a fair bit of rain around. Even lightning and thunder in some central areas.

( White arrows show normal surface or low level winds and orange arrows show high level cloud movements. )
