Municipalities Plant Trees in Commemoration of Belize's 40th Anniversary of Independence

The National Celebrations Commission (NCC) has collaborated with the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management to support the planting of 360 trees in municipalities countrywide in commemoration of Belize's 40th anniversary of Independence.

Each city and town has partnered with community and youth groups to today plant 40 trees in their respective municipalities. These include Kenep (Spanish Lime), Soursop, Yellow Cortez, Golden Shower, Oleander, Bougainvillea, Hibiscus, Ficus, Ziricote, Cedar, Mahogany trees and African, Royal and Areca palms.

Belizeans must continue to work together to preserve and protect the nation's environment. The NCC, therefore, encourages residents to reach out to local leaders to support the initiative by volunteering as custodians of these trees.

The NCC also thanks Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, for his ministry's support and partnership on this initiative.

In honor of Belize's upcoming 40th anniversary, the San Pedro Town Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science & Technology have joined in a beautification project to plant 40 tree's around the island!

Today Mayor Gualberto "Wally" Nunez and fellow councilors along with SPTC staff took part in the first half of planting in Boca Del Rio & Saca Chispas field.
