Belize Weather Forecast: September 3, 2021

General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly cloudy this morning. Partly cloudy in San Pedro. A disturbance moving over the area will continue to support moist and unstable weather.
Advisories: Operators of small crafts should exercise caution for gusty winds and locally rough seas near heavy showers and thunderstorms. There is the possibility for flooding to occur over low-lying and flood prone areas as heavy rainfall is expected over the next few days.
24-hour forecast: Cloudy to overcast skies with some showers and a few thunderstorms, especially over central and northern areas this morning and south this afternoon. Then activity will increase mainly along the coast later tonight.
Winds: E-SE, 10-20 kts Gusty
Sea State: Choppy - Rough
Waves: 3-7 ft
Sea Surface Temperature (°f): 86
Outlook: A few showers and isolated thunderstorms mainly over the north and central areas Saturday morning, decreasing slightly. Then numerous showers, thunderstorms and periods of rain, especially over central and coastal areas for Saturday night.
Sargassum Forecast from August 31 to September 8: Satellite imagery show a few sargassum mats offshore and therefore there continues to be medium chance of new mats landing on beaches across the country during the next few days. San Pedro has a medium probability and a moderate impact.
Tropical Weather Outlook: At 3:00am Hurricane Larry was centered near Lat 14.6N Long 38.9W or about 970 miles West of the Southernmost Cabo Verde Island. A surface trough moving over the Gulf of Honduras and portions of Central America is supporting heavy showers and thunderstorms across Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula. Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

There are two tropical waves in the Atlantic, and one in the Caribbean.

Thunderstorms that had been over and near Haiti overnight have diminished. Fresh to locally strong trades are occurring in the south-central Caribbean, with fresh trades also ongoing in the Gulf of Honduras. Elsewhere, gentle to moderate mainly east winds prevail. Seas are 4 to 6 ft in the areas of fresh winds, and 2 to 4 ft elsewhere.

A surface trough over the Gulf of Honduras and portions of Central America is producing disorganized scattered moderate convection over northern Nicaragua and Honduras, and over water from 16N-19N between 81W-85W. This system is expected to move west-northwestward across Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula, bringing heavy rains to that area during the next couple of days. The disturbance could then move over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico late this weekend.

Although Hurricane Larry is forecast to stay well N and E of the basin, swell from Larry may get through NE Caribbean passages early next week.

A surface trough over the Gulf of Honduras and portions of Central America is producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity. This system is expected to move west-northwestward across Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula, bringing heavy rains to that area during the next couple of days. The disturbance could then move over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico late this weekend, but unfavorable upper-level winds are likely to limit significant development while the system moves northwestward or northward over the western Gulf of Mexico early next week.

...LARRY SLOWLY STRENGTHENING...

At 5 a.m. AST, the center of Hurricane Larry was located over the tropical Atlantic Ocean about 970 miles (1560 km) west of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands and about 1530 (2460 km) east of the Leeward Islands. Larry is moving toward the west-northwest near 20 mph (31 km/h) and this motion is expected during the next few days. A turn to the northwest is forecast to take place by early next week.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher gusts. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles (240 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 982 mb (29.00 inches). Additional strengthening is forecast to occur during the next few days, and Larry could become a major hurricane by tonight.

Crown Weather

Invest 91-L Located In The Western Caribbean: There has been a slight increase in the thunderstorm activity associated with Invest 91-L that is located in the western Caribbean today. Even though the wind shear values are somewhat favorable for development, land interaction with Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula should stop any development this weekend.

That ITCZ activity I showed last night, in the Caribbean is still out there, did not come in, but the other activity south of Belize has continued up northwards, causing rain over night to southern areas and now central and northern areas. No sign of any rotation, just storm clouds and rain, some very heavy rain.

[Linked Image]

Rain will continue for many in the north half of the country for some time to come, and a few other parts. This will ease of later today.

Today
Storm, and a lot of rain for those in the north and north central, still some rain in parts of the south, but generally easing off later. Some sunshine in parts of southern Belize.

Tonight
Could be more night rain..

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last Night 25°C 77°F Yesterday max. 32°C 90°F Yesterday Rain 0.2 mm (0") Over Night Rain 12 mm (0.5")

Heavy rain areas in the north, some more, new rain in the south, coming up from the south.
I am seeing rotation in the clouds, not that this will effect us, but it could cause another Gulf storm.
