A north Ambergris Caye resident, 54-year-old Carlos Rafael Zalazar Monroy, was arrested for possession of 1,034 grams of cocaine. Monroy was charged and transported to Belize City, where on Monday, September 6th, he was formally arraigned at the Magistrate Court.

Monroy was detained on Friday, September 3rd, when police on the island searched a building around the El Secreto area on northern Ambergris Caye. The search ended with discovering a parcel with suspected drugs inside a metal box in the kitchen area. Police say that Monroy was present at the time of the search and was detained and later charged.

Police could not say the origin of the drugs.
