Drug planes coming up from South America and using the Central American Isthmus as a transhipment point are a regular feature of life in Belize. But, now the Colombian military has formed an official linkage with the BDF to share intelligence about these flights.

On October 25th, 2021, General Ramses Rueda, the Commander of the Colombian Air Force, and his delegation visited Brigadier General Steven Ortega at Price Barracks, Ladyville. They discussed transnational organised crime and signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries' armed forces that provides the framework for information sharing and collaboration in air surveillance and interdiction.

The visit included a visit to the Joint Intelligence Operation Centre (JIOC) - which tracks narco flights.
