Nicaragua defeats Belize in Mens Volleyball



Three sets to one.

Last night, Nicaragua won their opening match against Belize in a hard fought battle of four sets 3-1 (27-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23) with very close scores throughout the game.

Nicaragua recovered from a five-point deficit (16-21) to win an extended first set. Team Belize came out stronger in the second set, with top scorers Karym Coleman, Francis Hauze and Bryton Codd attacking over the net.

Belize led 59-55 in attacks and by a huge 12-6 margin in blocks; Nicaragua performed better in serves with a 4-2 advantage. Belizean opposite hitter Karym Coleman scored an impressive 30 points all on kills, followed by outside hitter Francis Hauze with 18 points including 5 blocks, and Bryton Codd tallied 15 points including 2 aces.

El Salvador recovered from an intense first set with Belize, and won in four sets last night 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-19).

Team Belize will need to work hard to rebound today, but we know they will bring the energy again!

Opposite hitter Karym Coleman led again for Belize last night, scoring 26 points, followed by outside hitters Francis Hauze and Bryton Codd with 14 and 12 points respectively. Keys to the rebound today will be to keep offense simple, establish the middle, and reduce errors. We know you can do it Team Belize! Let's go!

Belize celebrated a big win today over Honduras 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20) on the third day of the XXI Central American Men's Volleyball Championship being held in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
