Through the Denton Program, U.S. Embassy Belmopan facilitated the delivery of three fire trucks to Belize through collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) military airlift.
The fire trucks were purchased by the Government of Belize and transportation to Belize was facilitated by the Rotary Club of Edmonton Strathcona in Calgary, Canada.
The U.S. Government delivered the fire trucks under the auspices of The Denton Humanitarian Assistance Program, a jointly administered program of USAID - US Agency for International Development, the U.S. Department of State, and the Department of Defense.
This program was started more than 30 years ago to assist U.S.-based non-governmental organizations with delivering donated humanitarian cargo to countries in need around the world. Since then, tons of essential supplies and cargo have been delivered by land, air, and sea.
The three fire trucks will be used to reduce emergency response times for the Cayo and Belize districts, helping Belizean firefighters respond more quickly to fires and other emergencies, where saving minutes can mean saving lives.
