The Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) continues to use technology in it's monitoring activities. From the sky, drones are used but we are testing the use of underwater drones within the Port Honduras Marine Reserve (PHMR). This allows us to monitor activities under the sea. Researchers can locate spawning aggregation sites before they dive. Underwater drones can be used to locate illegally used fish traps from PHMR as well as gill nets that may be lurking below.
