The Caribbean Sea

Broad mid to upper-level anticyclonic wind flow covers the Caribbean Sea. Water vapor imagery depicts weak subsidence, resulting in rather stable atmospheric conditions over the central and eastern Caribbean. GOES-16 satellite imagery indicated a trough in the east-central Gulf south of the Mona Passage from 17N68W to 09N69W. Earlier thunderstorms associated with a weak trough in the central Caribbean have dissipated. Scattered moderate convection is noted in the SW Caribbean, S of 14.5N and W of 76W with the influence of the monsoon trough. Isolated tstorms are also noted in the Gulf of Honduras and near Cozumel. Moderate wind speeds are occurring over the Caribbean south of 17N, with fresh speeds near the coast of Colombia. Light to gentle variable winds are over the NW Caribbean. Seas in the western Caribbean are 1-3 ft with 3-5 ft in the central and eastern basin, and up to 6 ft near the coast of Colombia.

For the forecast, gentle to moderate trades will prevail across much of the Caribbean Sea through today. A cold front will reach the Yucatan Channel late this afternoon or evening. The cold front will extend from eastern Cuba to eastern Honduras by late Tue as a reinforcing front reaches the Yucatan Channel. Fresh N to NE winds and building seas are expected across the western Caribbean through Thu, with locally strong NE winds in the Windward and Mona Passages. Moderate northerly swell will affect the NE Caribbean passages beginning Thu night and Fri.

NEW COLD FRONT WILL MOVE OVER MEXICO CENTRAL AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

A new cold front will be located by Monday 22 over the center of the Gulf of Mexico and by Tuesday 23 November it would have already crossed the peninsula of Yucatan, and the western and central part of Cuba moving towards the eastern part of Cuba reaching the northwest of Honduras. The frontal band of the system will be accompanied by cloudiness with showers and electrical storms as they pass over the northeastern, eastern and southern states of Mexico with more scattered rains on the Yucatan peninsula and Cuba. In Central America it will cause rains over the northern part of Guatemala and part of Belize, northern coast of Honduras and more scattered rains on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. Behind the front the decline in temperatures will be more notable over eastern states of Mexico the western part of Cuba and in Central America and the Caribbean.

Beautiful morning!

The cool air is presently, coming directly down from the centre of north America, across the Gulf, the Caribbean wind being deflected down. There is presently, only a small amount of high level clod and even some of that is now being deflected. There are patches of rain way out at sea and unlikely to come near land today.

North of Belize is under significant cloud or fog, the south is sunshine, looks as if today could vary between some cloud and sunshine, no rain expected.

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last Night 23°C 73°F Yesterday max. 29°C 84°F Yesterday Rain 0.2 mm ( 0.01") Over Night Rain 0 mm ( 0" )
