Belize Weather Forecast: November 24, 2021


General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Light cloud cover throughout the country this morning, including in San Pedro. Thinner cloud cover in the north. Generally fair weather prevails.
Advisories: None.
24-hour forecast: Cloudy at times with isolated showers, but slightly more will develop over northern coastal areas this morning.
Winds: N-NE, 5-15 kts
Sea State: Choppy
Waves: 3-5 ft
Sea Surface Temperature (°f): 83
Outlook: For Thursday and Thursday night is for only isolated showers around the country.
Sargassum Forecast from November 16 to November 24: Only small chances of sargassum drifting ashore during the next few days, producing minimal impacts on local beaches across the country. San Pedro has a low probability and a minimal impact.
Tropical Weather Outlook: Tropical cyclone formation is not expected in the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea or Gulf of Mexico during the next 48 hours. Click for more of the tropical weather outlook...

Marine Conditions:

The Caribbean Sea

A cold front continues to press south and east across the Caribbean, stretching from Haiti near 19N73W to southern Belize near 17N88W. Isolated thunderstorms are noted in the Windward Passage and off the SE Hispaniola coast. Moderate to fresh northerly winds are occurring behind the front in the lee of Cuba. Seas range 4 to 6 ft in the NW Caribbean. Meanwhile, scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is being enhanced by the monsoon trough in the SW Caribbean, S of 16N between 73W and 82W. Light to gentle winds prevail across most of the basin with seas 1 to 3 ft.

For the forecast, the cold front will reach from Hispaniola to Nicaragua this evening, then stall Thu from the Mona Passage to S of Jamaica and gradually dissipate by Sat. Fresh NE winds will occur behind the front, with strong winds possible S of Hispaniola and in the Windward Passage this evening and into tonight. Showers and thunderstorms will increase over Hispaniola and Puerto Rico today through Fri and bring a potential for heavy rain. Moderate northerly swell will affect the NE Caribbean passages and the Tropical N Atlantic waters Thu into the weekend.

On Ambergris Caye this morning we have a wind from the North blowing at 9 mph. Today's expected high temperature is 82f.

The easterly Caribbean winds are starting to return to normal, but presently resulting in a lot of cloud down the coast, and some off shore rain. Only a little bit of high level, some from the SW as typical and some off Honduras from the south.

Looks as if today will be mixture of cloud, hazy sun, sunshine and a possibility of a few rain showers.

Present Condition: Mostly cloudy throughout the country, including in San Pedro. Some clearing in the northwest. A north to northeasterly airflow prevails over the area.

24hr Forecast: Mostly cloudy skies with light rain and a few showers especially over northern and central areas this afternoon then mainly over the north and along the coast tonight, spreading to central areas tomorrow morning.

Outlook: Light rain or isolated showers mostly inland Thursday afternoon and along the south coast Thursday night and Friday morning.

Flood Report and Forecast for November 24, 2021

River Conditions

REGION 7 - On the RIO HONDO at Blue Creek North and downstream at Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman, and Douglas to the Coast, all levels are below normal and steady. On the NEW RIVER at Tower Hill and Caledonia, levels are below normal and decreasing.

REGION 9 - On the MACAL RIVER, reservoir levels at all BECOL facilities are below the spillways; and at San Ignacio, levels remain below the low-level bridge and steady. On the MOPAN RIVER at Benque Viejo Town, levels are below normal and decreasing. On the BELIZE RIVER at Double Run, levels are below normal and steady; and on the CROOKED TREE LAGOON, lagoon levels remain below the causeway and steady.

REGION 11 - On the SIBUN RIVER at Freetown Sibun, levels are below normal and decreasing. Levels on the SOUTHERN LAGOON at Gales Point Village is near normal and steady. In watersheds on the EASTERN SLOPES OF THE MAYAN MOUNTAINS, levels are below normal and steady; and on the SITTEE RIVER at Kendal Bridge, levels are near normal and steady.

On the Swasey and Bladen branches of the MONKEY RIVER, levels are below normal and steady. On the DEEP RIVER at Medina Bank, below normal and steady levels continue. On the RIO GRANDE at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls South, levels are near normal and steady.

On the MOHO RIVER at Blue Creek South and Jordan levels are near normal and decreasing slowly.

REGION 13 - On the SARSTOON RIVER, levels are normal and steady.

FLOOD FORECAST
