Our News Five team was in La Isla Bonita, San Pedro today and we decided to check in with Mayor Wally Nunez as the island town was buzzing with tourism activity. While the numbers are not as high as they were in 2019, the mayor says the prime tourist destination is rebounding.

Wally Nunez, Mayor, San Pedro Town

"The tourism numbers are going up and that shows something very good for us, for the island, for the economy. People are getting back to work so we want everybody to go back to work for our economy to increase and rebound as it was once before in 2019 when everything was what we used to call normal. Everything has been steadily increasing. We can see a lot of places opening up back, people getting back to work. And we know that with that people will be able to pay their bills and buy good. It has been a problem here on the island. Over sixty percent of the people have been vaccinated here on the island. People are taking it very seriously because we know that we depend on tourism and people on the island have been going out to get vaccinated. And I am very happy and proud that we have managed to get most of our people or our workforce to go out there and get vaccinated."
