The Caribbean Sea
The tight pressure gradient due to the strong ridge north of the
Greater Antilles and lower pressures over northern South America
result in strong to near gale-force trades across the south-
central Caribbean Sea as depicted in a recent scatterometer
satellite pass. The strongest winds are occurring offshore NW
Colombia. Fresh to locally strong trades are present in the north-
central Caribbean Sea, with the strongest winds observed offshore
southern Hispaniola and in the Windward Passage. Seas of 7-10 ft
prevail in the central Caribbean Sea, with the highest seas
occurring offshore NW Colombia. The rest of the basin enjoys
tranquil weather conditions, moderate to locally fresh trades and
3-7 ft seas.
For the forecast, the aforementioned pressure gradient will
continue to support fresh to strong easterly trades over the
south-central Caribbean through the weekend. Moderate to fresh
trades will prevail elsewhere. High pressure will continue to
strengthen over the western Atlantic through the forecast period,
resulting in pulsing fresh to locally strong northeast winds in
the Windward Passage, the lee of Cuba and south of Hispaniola
through Wed night.
Presently strong easterly Caribbean winds with some clouds. A large area of cloud over the Honduras coast area, which could come out way, but appears to be evaporating away fast, this is only a few traces of high level winds over that cloud. There are signs that another cool front is coming down over the Gulf, I don't yet know how far it will come. Tomorrow it might be clearer how it will effect our weather, the met office clearly think it will cause us a fair amount of rain over next week.
Looks as if today will be mainly sunny with some clouds building later and only a very small chance of any rain.
Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 22°C 72°F Yesterday max. 30°C 85°F Yesterday Rain 0 mm ( 0") Over Night Rain 0 mm ( 0" )
Present Condition: Mostly clear skies throughout the country, including in San Pedro. Generally fair conditions prevail with a slight increase in moisture expected later tonight.
24hr Forecast: Mostly sunny this afternoon, becoming cloudy at times tonight. Showers will be isolated at first, increasing along the coast by morning.
Outlook: A few showers or periods of light rain will affect most places Sunday afternoon gradually decreasing and lingering over the north Sunday night; while otherwise being isolated. Then only isolated showers expected during Monday morning.
