The Caribbean Sea
A weak upper level trough from the Yucatan Channel to Nicaragua is
inducing scattered moderate convection. Scattered moderate
convection is also noted S of 10N in association with the eastward
extension of the Eastern Pacific monsoon trough. Otherwise, fairly
dry air and stable conditions is keeping the Caribbean rain-free.
Strong to near gale-force winds dominate the central basin,
highest offshore Colombia. Fresh to strong winds are occurring in
the eastern basin with moderate to fresh winds in the western
Caribbean. Seas are 8 to 11 ft in the central, eastern, and
southwest Caribbean, with 3 to 6 ft seas in the NW.
High pressure building south through the Atlantic will support
fresh to strong trades over the central and eastern Caribbean and
tropical N Atlantic this weekend. The high will move east for the
start of next week, leading to weaker trades. Large N to NE swell
will continue in the tropical N Atlantic as well as Mona and
Anegada Passages through Mon. Looking ahead, a cold front may move
into the Yucatan Channel Tue.
Starting on Saturday, December 18, a new cold front will arrive in the north and northeast of Mexico, favoring cloudiness and thunderstorm activity. This front will interact during the end with the subtropical jet current giving the formation of an Extratropical Cyclone that will move towards the northern part of Florida, driving the cold front towards the south and southeast of Mexico. The image is representative of Monday, December 20, while the cold front will already move over the Yucatan peninsula. On Monday night the frontal band of the system will be accompanied by cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms as well as a moderate North event on the coasts of Veracruz and a drop in temperatures. On Tuesday, the front will move over the western part of Cuba and the countries of the northern Central America: Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras where there will be some moderate rains over part of Belize, Northern part of Guatemala, and northwestern Honduras. North winds with a moderate drop in temperatures is likely.

On Ambergris Caye this morning it's raining buckets. We had thunder with lightning throughout the night. The wind is from the East at 11 mph. Today's expected high temperature is set at 86 f.
Nicaragua and Honduras east areas are continuing to be under heavy rain making cloud as they have been for about two weeks continually, sorry for them, thankfully not over Belize for too long. In addition to their ITCZ cloud rain making activity sending clouds up from the south, there is also another high level wind with some thin cloud from the NW and the Caribbean wind is now from the ESE
Today looks like a fair bit of sunshine, but also a mixture of low and some high cloud, and some rain showers, presently Stann Creak district. But there could be a few rain showers anywhere later.
Belize radar still not working ( IT problem )
Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler ) Last Night 22°C 72°F Yesterday max. 27°C 80°F Yesterday Rain 23.5 mm ( 0.9") Over Night Rain 1 mm ( 0.04" )
Present Condition: Partly cloudy on the mainland, clear skies in San Pedro. A relatively moist easterly airflow continues to dominate our weather.
24hr Forecast: Today skies will be sunny with a few cloudy intervals and partly cloudy becoming cloudy at times tonight. A few showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop mainly along northern coastal and over inland areas during the afternoon and then mainly along coastal and southern areas tonight and tomorrow morning.
Outlook: For Sunday afternoon thru to Monday afternoon is for cloudy spells with a few coastal showers and the chance of an isolated thunderstorm.
