The Caribbean Sea

Convection associated with a weakening surface trough in the Yucatan Channel has diminished overnight. Otherwise, mid-level anticyclonic flow covers the Caribbean Sea, leading to subsidence and relatively dry conditions across the basin. Low pressure at 1008 mb over Colombia combined with ridging which extends from north of the basin to across the NW Caribbean continues to support fresh to strong winds offshore of northern Colombia, along with seas of 6 to 8 ft, highest near 11.5N75W. Fresh NE winds are noted across the approach to the Windward Passage. Moderate to fresh trades cover the remainder of the central and eastern Caribbean, along with 3 to 6 ft seas, highest in the central Caribbean. Light to gentle variable winds are in the NW Caribbean under the ridging along with 2 to 4 ft seas, while gentle to moderate winds and 3 to 5 ft seas prevail elsewhere in the western Caribbean.

For the forecast, pulsing strong winds will prevail offshore Colombia through Fri night, with mainly moderate trades expected elsewhere. A cold front will move into the NW Caribbean by Fri night and southwest Caribbean by late Sat, and bring fresh to strong north to northeast winds and building seas through the weekend. Expect fresh to locally strong winds over the Windward Passage Sun into Mon behind the front.

The easterly Caribbean winds are still trying to push back, but the remains of the cold air are still over Belize, causing a lot of fog or low cloud in the area. The cold air bubble is rolling past the Yucatan, and probably allowing the Caribbean air in properly by this evening. There are some heavier patches of cloud and possibly rain the the Caribbean winds

Looks as if there will be low cloud for a while, area of sunshine increasing as the fog burns off later, patches of rain are probably.

Temperatures in Belmopan : ( Coast usually cooler, hills even cooler )
Last Night 23°C 74°F Yesterday max. 30°C 86°F Yesterday Rain 2.0mm ( 0.1") Over Night Rain 0mm ( 0" )

Present Condition: Partly cloudy, more so in the south. Clear skies in San Pedro, a few clouds scattered about. A slight increase in moisture over the area is expected going into the weekend.

24hr Forecast: Sunny with a few cloudy spells during the daytime and partly cloudy tonight. Showers will be isolated, except for a few more mainly over inland areas this afternoon, then over coastal and offshore areas tonight and tomorrow morning.

Outlook: A similar trend is expected in the outlook, except for some showers or periods of rain along some coastal, southern and offshore areas on Saturday morning.

There is a cold front coming down to Belize - late Friday night, lasting thru the weekend. The forecast only calls for low 70s and a north wind.
