Twenty-five residents of Caye Caulker Village will now be better able to provide for their families after completing diversification training through the Ministry of the Blue Economy and the island's branch of the Belize Tourism Industry Association. The capacity-building training dubbed "utilizing island resources for sustainable Caye Caulker livelihoods" provided the participants with skills in the production of sea salt and seaweed cultivation. Minister Andre Perez spoke to our newsroom about the project and its importance. The project came at a total cost of 25,000 US Dollars that was provided by the Taiwanese Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration.

Yesterday, His Excellency Chien, Ambassador of the Republic of China(Taiwan) was on the island for the award ceremony of the "Empowering of women/men post Covid" where 25 islanders learned various self sustainable techniques from packaging, sea salt extraction, sea weed food manufacturing and more. The program was funded by the Government of Taiwan in conjunction with the Ministry of the Blue Economy. The project was spareheaded by the Caye Caulker BTIA. The CCVC take this opportunity to express sincere thank you to the government of Taiwan, Area Representative Hon. Andre Perez, and the Caye Caulker BTIA local chapter for making this program possible. We also express congratulations to the 25 islanders who successfully completed the project.
The Ambassador also handed over a cheque of 2000.00 that was used to purchase a fire truck that will be house on North Caye Caulker when it arrives from the U.S.A. We take this opportunity to thank the government and people of Taiwan for their contribution to the Caye Caulker Community.
