Belize Weather Forecast: February 2, 2022


General Situation:
Ambergris Caye: Conditions this morning by Elbert just before or after this post!
Belize NMS: Present Condition: Mostly clear, a few clouds in the southwest. Mostly clear in San Pedro, a few scattered clouds. Generally fair weather prevails. A new cold front "Sulub" (number 28) is on the way.
Advisories: A small craft caution will likely go into effect tonight as winds may become occasionally gusty and seas locally rough.
24-hour forecast: Sunny with a few cloudy spells today then clear to partly cloudy tonight. Showers, if any, will be isolated.
Winds: E-SE, 10-20 kts
Sea State: Choppy
Waves: 3-5 ft
Sea Surface Temperature (°f): 80
Outlook: Generally fair conditions with little or no rainfall on Thursday, and a chance for isolated showers developing Thursday night.
Sargassum Forecast from February 1 to February 9: Latest observations show a moderate increase in Sargassum offshore the country. As a result there in an increase in the chances of Sargassum affecting local beaches during the next few days. San Pedro has a medium probability with a moderate impact.

The Caribbean Sea

High pressure ridging from north of the area is maintaining a pressure gradient with a 1009 mb low pressure over Colombia. This is generating a strong NE wind in the Windward Passage with fresh winds S of Cuba and N of Colombia. Moderate trades prevail elsewhere. A shearline is analyzed from 24N67W in the Mona Passage to 18N75W to 20N83W. Scattered showers are present along the Windward Passage and south of Cuba near Isla de la Juventud. Seas are are generally 3-5 ft across the basin with up to 7 ft likely south of the Windward Passage and in the Colombian Basin.

For the forecast, fresh to strong NE winds will continue across the Windward Passage, and off Colombia, especially at night, through Fri night. Fresh to strong winds will pulse at night in the lee of Cuba through Thu night. Similar winds are expected in the Gulfs of Honduras and Venezuela Wed night and Thu night. Fresh to strong winds are also forecast south of Hispaniola Thu into Fri night. Mainly moderate trades will prevail elsewhere.

On Ambergris Caye this morning it's windy and the sea around our barrier reef is rough. Today's expected high temperature is 84 f.

Present Condition: Partly cloudy skies throughout the country. Mostly clear in San Pedro, a few clouds around. Mainly fair and dry weather conditions prevail. A small craft caution will likely go into effect tonight as winds become gusty supporting locally rough seas.

24hr Forecast: Mostly sunny skies during the daytime and partly cloudy skies tonight. Little or no rainfall is expected.

Outlook: From Thursday afternoon through to midday on Friday is for continuing generally fair weather conditions with only isolated showers developing on Friday morning.

We have simple Caribbean winds from the SE over the whole area, no rain on the radar.
